Emigrant Direct has made a big splash in the banking world. [1]

Update: Emigrant Bank, the owner of Emigrant Direct, has launched a new high-yield savings account, Dollar Savings Direct (my review), which offers 4.00% APY. [2]

At the time of this writing, the Emigrant Direct American Dream Savings Account offers one of the highest-paying savings accounts (without imposing fees or minimums). [3]

But that was debatable, as opening the account required waiting for Emigrant to snail-mail applicants a document or two before the account could even be accessed. [1]
