30 pieces of silver
Judas made a deal with the Jewish authorities to betray Jesus into their custody; in return for 30 pieces of silver, he brought the armed guard to the Garden of Gethsemane and identified Jesus with a kiss. [1]
And they weighed out thirty pieces of silver to him. [2]
From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over. [3]
Judas Iscariot was the disciple who betrayed Jesus of Nazareth, according to the Christian Bible. [...] The Gospels — the first four books of the New Testament — tell of authorities in Jerusalem who plot to kill Jesus during a religious festival but need to avoid a riot. [1]
In April 2006, a Coptic papyrus manuscript titled the Gospel of Judas (see above section) dating back to 200 AD, was translated into modern language, to add weight to the possibility that according to early Christian writings, Jesus may have asked Judas to betray him. [...] His name is also associated with a Gnostic gospel, the Gospel of Judas, that exists in an early fourth century Coptic text. [4]
So they counted out for him thirty silver coins. [...] It is the legal price of a slave. [3]
An entirely different portrayal appears in an ancient Gospel of Judas, not included in the Bible. [1]
And the price was fixed at thirty bits of silver. [2]
Casting down the money, Judas departed, and went and hanged himself, not being able to bear the terror of Divine wrath, and the anguish of despair. [5]
The pieces were silver shekels, temple money. [...] After he had made that wicked bargain, Judas had time to repent, and to revoke it; but when lesser acts of dishonesty have hardened the conscience men do without hesitation that which is more shameful. [2]
He said that religious spirits would not enter the kingdom of God and they would not let you enter in either. [6]
