americans for limited government

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

Taxpayer-funded lobbying is a largely unnoticed barrier to enacting pro-growth, limited government policies. [1]

Americans for Limited Government (ALG) is a conservative, libertarian think tank. [2]

In 2006, the Ballot Initiative Strategy Center was a frequent critic of Americans for Limited Government, establishing a website, “Howie Rich Exposed” devoted to attacking Howard Rich, the president of ALG. [3]

Because Americans for Limited Government worked with citizens who wanted to put an end to eminent domain abuse. [4]

If you believe in limited government … if you believe in individual liberty … if you believe that it is time to reclaim liberty throughout the land - in short, if you’re ready to Roll back government - we invite you to join Americans for Limited Government now. [5]

A “review of public records from 2004, however, shows that the operations of Americans for Limited Government and its affiliated foundation were financed almost entirely that year by a handful of large donors, as were the operations of other tax-exempt organizations led by or otherwise connected to ALG’s chairman, New York real estate investor Howard Rich. [6]

Grassroots free-market group Americans for Prosperity hailed the bipartisan rejection of the so-called stimulus bill, an astonishing trillion-dollar plus borrow-and-spend plan for dramatically expanding big government, which was passed in the House last night on a party-line vote. [7]

While ordinary Americans are busy working, their hard-earned tax dollars are being used to pay for lobbyists who are fighting for higher taxes and bigger government. [1]

One of ALG’s primary projects is funding ballot initiatives throughout the country that would curtail the expanded scope of eminent domain created by the US Supreme Court ’s Kelo v. [2]

In 2006, ALG helped fund ballot initiatives to curtail the expanded scope of eminent domain created by the US Supreme Court’s Kelo v. [3]

ALG also supports initiatives to enact Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TaBOR) laws, which require states annually to reduce or restrict revenue or spending to within limits set according to inflation and population growth. [2]

These initiatives were known as “Kelo-Plus” to indicate that they included a provision to reform regulatory takings policy, in addition to reforming eminent domain abuses. [3]

“In his State of the State address, Gov. Rick Perry today outlined a legislative agenda for Texas which sets spending priorities and balances the budget without raising taxes. [1]

Many politicians don’t honor their own principles or platforms.Voters are cynical and increasingly alienated from political parties, politicians, and the government. [4]

TABOR was first enacted in Colorado Springs in 1991, and then enacted at the state level the following year.(1) When TABOR was enacted in Colorado Springs critics argued that it would end local government as we know it. [7]

anchorman

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is a 2004 comedy film written by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. [1]

Ron Burgundy is San Diego’s top rated newsman in the male dominated broadcasting of the 1970’s, but that’s all about to change when a new female employee with ambition to burn arrives in his office. [2]

In this movie Will Ferrell plays a top-rated anchorman in San Diego in the 1970’s. [3]

It’s a one-joke premise, but the movie is amiably dumb, and there are scenes of inspired goofiness. [4]

The film is a tongue-in-cheek take on the culture of the 1970s, particularly the then-new Action News format. [...] He hires Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), a news reporter from Asheville, North Carolina, who turns out to be the woman Ron tried to woo at the party the previous night. [...] It portrays a San Diego TV station where one female reporter (Christina Applegate) struggles to become the first “Anchorwoman”. [1]

The most devoted cineastes and the average hoi polloi moviegoers both need to kick back and laugh, without probing or analysis, at a goofball, outrageously funny comedy with zero depth. [...] In the scene in which Brian Fantana hits on Veronica in the news office while wearing Panther cologne; Judd Apatow makes a cameo as the man who says that the cologne smells like: “A turd covered in burnt hair”. [2]

He works along with his friends and co-reporters Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), who works as the lead field reporter, sports reporter Champion “Champ” Kind (David Koechner), and weatherman Brick Tamland (Steve Carell) at Channel 4 News. [1]

No way and the rest of the film is Ron’s Revenge and Veronica’s Counterattack. [2]

This site is not affiliated with any movie or production company. [...] Christina Applegate plays Veronica a rival in the newsroom who refuses to stay in her place. [3]

According to the official production notes and “making of” documentary (both included on the DVD), Anchorman was actually filmed in Los Angeles, Glendale, and Long Beach on sets which were dressed to look like San Diego in the 1970s. [...] After a successful day of work, the team is notified their show has reached #1 in San Diego ratings, leading them to throw a wild party (even though their boss, Ed Harken (Fred Willard), told his assistant Garth Holiday (Chris Parnell) not to let this happen).
