Robert De Niro projects his subtitles like a pro, with his occasional outburst in the right place; James Woods gives one of his first great performances as Max; Elizabeth McGovern is the heart of the film; and Joe Pesci should’ve had more than just a one scene appearance, thought it’s still good. Politically, no group is left unsatirized: from the idiotic faux-country patriotic music, to know-it-all leftie actors being portrayed as goon puppets (the more self-important members of the Tim Robbins and Sean Penn fan clubs may want to skip this), no group escapes without being ridiculed. [2]

Factual errors: When the cargo floats to the surface in the scene in the harbour, the crates are floating with the balloons on top out and of the water, offering no extra buoyancy and therefore not needed.
