In opposition to other superheroes that lacked scientific exploration of their origins, Moore sought to delve into nuclear physics and quantum physics in constructing the character of Dr. Manhattan. [1]
Dr Manhattan is an American rock band from Wauconda, Illinois. [2]
That revolution, as you may anticipate, comes in the form of a band, namely a scrappy fourpiece from Lake County, IL that goes by the name Dr. Manhattan. [...] According to legend (or perhaps the tongue-in-cheek self-indulgence the band embodies), Dr. Manhattan was spawned in 2005 under some rather unusual circumstances after the four members spent much of their lives growing up together. [3]
The Comedian was based on the Charlton Comics character Peacemaker, with elements of the Marvel Comics spy character Nick Fury added. [1]
Manhattan eventually was abandoned by an aging Janey Slater when he began an affair with young Laurie Juspeczyk, the second Silk Spectre. [4]
Doctor Jonathan Osterman (Doctor Manhattan) is a character in Watchmen. [5]
The band’s first single “Big Chomper, Big Chomper” was supposed to appear on the soundtrack of the game NHL 09 but was cut from the game. [2]
His father was a watchmaker, and Jon planned to follow in his footsteps. [...] While his military backers market him as a superhero, he grows increasingly disinterested in human affairs, despite his importance in the Cold War, and is unable to connect with others, especially his love interest Laurie, the second Silk Spectre. [...] The incident represents the turning point in Jon’s potential future from watchmaker to nuclear physicist and foreshadows Doctor Manhattan’s ‘exterior’ perception of time as predetermined and all things within it as so determined, including Doctor Manhattan’s own reactions and emotions. The main characters of the 1986 comic book limited series Watchmen (from left to right): Ozymandias, Silk Spectre, Doctor Manhattan, The Comedian (kneeling), Nite Owl, and Rorschach. [1]
The world of Dr. Manhattan revolves from the raucous, in-your-face melodies of album opener ‘Big Chomper, Big Chomper,’ an introductory track that reveals the band’s skill for drawing intrigue and beauty out of the depths of cacophony, to the lighter, eclectic ‘Claims Should Echo,’ where hooks emerge from places one would never expect them to hide, to the soaring, admirably lovely ‘Gunpowder: A Ballet,’ a song that blossoms with hushed emotion and layers propulsive guitars with graceful keys. [3]
Osterman was the son of a watchmaker who pushed him into studying atomic physics instead of following in the family business. [4]
The idea that it is, as Vombrack says, everything and nothing at the same time is showcased rather brilliantly on the band’s self-titled debut album (3/11/08), which was written and recorded prior to signing with Vagrant Records in June of 2007 (and even includes the first song the band ever wrote, ‘The Party’s Opinion’).
