Naegleria (nigh-GLEER-E-uh) is an ameba commonly found in warm freshwater and soil. [1]

Naegleria infection is caused by the amoeba Naegleria fowleri - a microscopic organism that lives in fresh water and soil. [2]

Naegleria fowleri, is a bactera which thrives in warm water, especially in the south and southwest parts of the United States. [3]
