Currently, over 4,000 corps members are teaching in over 1,000 schools in 22 regions across the country; more than 10,000 Teach For America alumni continue working from inside and outside the field of education for the fundamental changes necessary to ensure educational excellence and equity. [2]

TFA teachers are full-fledged faculty members at their schools, receiving the normal school district salary and benefits as well as a modest AmeriCorps “education voucher” (which can be used to pay for credentialing courses, cover previous student loans, or fund further education after the two-year commitment). [...] The goal of TFA is for its corps members not only to make a short-term impact on their students, but also to become lifelong leaders in pursuing educational equality. [5]

“For the last nine years, really the only constraint on our growth has been recruits, just finding enough people who we really believe are ready for this,” said Wendy Kopp, the group’s founder and chief executive. [1]

Since 1990, over 15,000 of us have committed 2 years of our lives to ensure that our students received the best education. [6]

TFA teachers are placed in schools in urban areas such as New York City and Houston, as well as in rural places like eastern North Carolina and the Mississippi Delta. [5]
