roman polanski trial testimony

THE victim in the Roman Polanski sex case is now a married mother-of-three who has repeatedly asked authorities to drop charges against the man who sexually abused her as a 13-year-old. [1]

THE young teenager Roman Polanski sexually abused is now a 45-year-old mother of four who backs the film director’s plea for the 1977 case to be dropped. [2]

Exactly what happened and who-all is responsible for letting it happen is still up in the air, but Polanski is the perp, it was almost certainly not statutory, and there was a real victim. [3]

Let’s keep in mind that Roman Polanski gave a 13-year-old girl a Quaalude and champagne, then raped her, before we start discussing whether the victim looked older than her 13 years, or that she now says she’d rather not see him prosecuted because she can’t stand the media attention. [4]

So I would say no statutory rape charges should ever be file when the teens are close in age and they are consenting. [5]

The victim was willing, even eager, to arrange a plea bargain, largely because the treatment of her by investigators and the press was appallingly bad (or so it seems). [3]

Samantha Geimer, 45, was a starry-eyed innocent when Polanski asked her mother if he could photograph her for a fashion magazine at the Hollywood Hills home of Jack Nicholson in March 1977. [1]

He did commit a crime, but he has paid for the crime in many, many ways: In notoriety, in lawyers’ fees, in professional stigma. [5]

Ms Geimer left Los Angeles for Hawaii in the 1980s where she has rebuilt her life with her husband with whom she has three sons. [1]

Had the treatment of victims then been what it is like now, it is likely that Polanski would have faced more serious charges that were more in line with what (apparently) actually happened. [3]

There must be some deeper story here, because by any reckoning the decision was bizarre — though not nearly as bizarre as the fact that a U.S. judge wants to keep pursuing this case after so many decades. [5]

Polanski’s crime was not just a crime against a particular victim, it was also a crime committed in the context of his professional activities. [3]

The girl, now 45, has said more than once that she forgives him, that she can live with the memory, that she does not want him to be put back in court or in jail, and that a new trial will hurt her husband and children. [5]
