His 1938 radio broadcast of H. G.Wells’s The War of the Worlds and his film Citizen Kane (1941), often cited as the most innovative film ever made, are only two of the works that have helped make him an almost legendary figure. [1]

You know you have a boring or unbelievable or incoherent spot in a play or movie when the audience starts coughing or talking. [...] I was prepared to be disappointed, going into Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. [2]

That’s right, we completely skipped the repulsive second movie, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. [3]

In fact, we made sure our fourteen-year-old was prepared to see it, having family-room showings of Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. [2]

In fact, we made sure our 14-year-old was prepared to see it, having family-room showings of Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. [3]

We all loved seeing Raiders again - this is where it all began, after all. [...] Remember that the blacklist of Communists in Hollywood targeted people who actually had been Communists; their defense was not that they hadn’t been Communists, but that the government had no right to question them about it. [...] Because, as my daughter pointed out after watching Raiders and Last Crusade, it was a real disappointment that the two of them hadn’t stayed together. [2]

Covering principally the years 1936′47, they include extensive documentation of his stage and radio careers, as well as voluminous materials for the films he planned and produced. [...] The Fanto manuscripts consist of correspondence, film and theater production materials, photographs, and clippings pertaining to the work of Welles and his cameraman George Fanto. [1]

forbes 400 richest americans

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

The collective net worth of the superrich sank $300 billion in the past 12 months. [1]

China’s first trillion was a big story. [2]

The collective net worth of the nation’s wealthiest climbed $120 billion, to $1.25 trillion. [3]

And you no longer have to be a billionaire to be named one of the 400 richest Americans in the world: $950 million now gains entry to the exclusive club. [1]

If Ted Kennedy imparted his own unfounded fear of Reagan’s undeserved image of being a “war-monger” to the old men in the Kremlin, it backfired. [4]

It took a few millennium for China to get its first $1 trillion in reserves (Ok, more like a decade …). [2]

What we know for an inarguable FACT, however, is that reagan sent emissaries to Iran, to ask the Khomeini to hold on to our hostages until AFTER the election. [4]

1) The obscene amounts of money paid to entertainers for their performances, popularity, etc. [...] Of more interest to me than their income would be where they are sheltering their money from Obamanomics. [5]

Seems China is still happy to buy U.S. Treasuries despite all the scaremongering. [2]

Interesting to note that the author of this drivel, Peter Robinson a man who has no journalism degree,is a well known GOP shill and former speech-writer for the comatose ronnie reagan. [4]

Jack Manning got rich off a federal housing credit. [3]

The second trillion though came remarkably fast. [2]

3) The worse the reputation of the celebrity (s/he can do anything short of promoting dog-fighting– that is about the only offense that is not p.c.), the more money that the tabloid media expects to generate on their infamy. [5]

Kennedy may have, unwittingly, put a useful fear of Reagan into the “collective” consciousness of the Kremlin that compelled them to take Reagan seriously (unlike Khrushchev did JFK) and del with him. [4]

dark victory

View company contact information for Dark Victory on IMDbPro. [1]

A major success and perennial favorite, Dark Victory was later remade as Stolen Hours with Susan Hayward and as a TV movie starring Elizabeth Montgomery. [...] Judith Traherne (Bette Davis) is a very wealthy Long Island heiress whose life is a constant whirl of cocktails, parties, and wild living. [...] Despite her hedonistic lifestyle, Judith derives little pleasure from life except for her horses, cared for by stable master Michael O’Leary (Humphrey Bogart). [2]

Judith Traherne (Bette Davis) is a young, carefree, hedonistic Long Island socialite/heiress with a passion for horses, fast cars, and too much smoking and drinking. [3]

Critic Pauline Kael called this shamelessly enjoyable, vintage Bette Davis weepie a “kitsch classic,” and time hasn’t diminished its ability to give the tear ducts a good flushing. [4]

A great Bette Davis movie, but I was surprised it had a credit error. [1]

While this is not a great TV movie it is a good re-working of the 1939 Bette Davis classic. [5]

When a brain tumor starts giving her headaches and eroding her vision, she falls in love with her surgeon (George Brent), who grows more determined than ever to cure her. [4]

The screenplay by Casey Robinson was based on the unsuccessful 1934 play of the same title by George Brewer and Bertram Bloch. [3]

Adapted by Casey Robinson from a short-lived Broadway play starring Tallulah Bankhead, Dark Victory (1939) is one of Bette Davis ’s most affecting melodramas. [2]

She initially ignores severe headaches and brief episodes of dizziness and double vision, but when she uncharacteristically takes a spill while riding, and then tumbles down a flight of stairs, her secretary/best friend Ann King (Geraldine Fitzgerald) insists she see the family doctor, who refers her to a specialist. [...] Dr. Frederick Steele (George Brent) is in the midst of closing his New York City office in preparation of a move to Brattleboro, Vermont, where he plans to devote his time to brain cell research and scientific study on their growth. [3]

In one the the best remembered films of the thirties,Bette Davis gives beautifully modulated performance as Judith Traherne, the dying wealthy Long Island playgirl. [4]

With an able supporting cast, especially by Geraldine Fitzgerald and George Brent, and a fine Max Steiner score, movies do not get much better. [1]
