flashforward finale

Friday, May 28th, 2010

Now, he’s on yet another ABC sci-fi series ‘FlashForward’ as misunderstood physicist Simon Campos, who may be partially responsible for a global disaster. [1]

FlashForward begins as the world’s population blacks out for 137 seconds and they “flash forward” to see visions of their lives six months in the future. [2]

What will happen on the FlashForward finale, set to air on Thursday, May 27 on ABC at 8 p.m. [3]

D-Day just got worse on this final episode of FlashForward, especially when all we get for an ending is another massive cliffhanger. [...] In NLAP, Simon is getting Demetri and Janice to work with him to stop the next blackout from happening. [...] This FlashForward finale might just keep us thinking for weeks into the future too. [4]

Still, Sonya Walger promises, “It was so satisfying to read the finale because there are still glitches in the system. [...] Catch the FlashForward finale this Thursday on ABC. [5]

For week three, the ratings dropped again to a 3.0 and nine million. [2]

Well, I’m going to have to take serious issue with at least one of the plot threads that went down in this episode, but we’ll get to that in a bit. [1]

According to the episode description: April 29, 2010, arrives as everyone waits to see if the flash-forward predictions take place; Mark uncovers the date of the next blackout; Simon and Demetri break into the NLAP mainframe. [3]

WP Cumulus Flash tag cloud by Roy Tanck and Luke Morton requires Flash Player 9 or better. [2]

Not only are a number of renewed freshman and sophomore series ending in the next few weeks, but the network’s flagship program — ‘Lost’ — is completing its long and complicated run. [1]

While that sounds very nice, ultimately the decision to renew or cancel any TV show comes down to ratings. [6]

Because on “Future Shock,” more mysteries just hit us as quickly as a gunshot to a masked man’s head. [4]

India and Sri Lanka will tour Zimbabwe for an ODI tri-series. [1]

This is not the official website of Indian Premier League. [2]

The Indian innings was in part a carbon copy of New Zealand’s, with the Kiwis reduced to 36-5 by an excellent spell of new ball bowling from Pathan and Ashish Nehra. [...] New Zealand posted a massive 397-5 off 44 overs, with Lou Vincent smashing 172 for his maiden international century. [...] India recalled Virender Sehwag in place of Venugopal Rao while New Zealand included Chris Cairns and Andre Adams for Shane Bond and Daniel Vettori. [...] Earlier Dhoni (56) and Yuvraj Singh (53 not out) put on 103 runs for the 87-ball fifth wicket stand which gave a semblance of respectability to the doddering Indians against a midget-weight opposition in Zimbabwe. [...] Nathan Astle hit his 15th century in one-day international cricket as New Zealand beat India by six wickets in the final of a triangular series in Harare, Zimbabwe. [...] Vincent’s 172 was scored off 119 balls, including 16 fours and nine sixes, before being caught by Prosper Utseya off the bowling of Andy Blignaut - just 22 runs short of Saeed Anwar’s ODI world record individual score. [1]

Vincent featured in a 204-run opening partnership with skipper Stephen Fleming (93) and a 122-run stand with Craig Fleming for the second wicket on a day records tumbled. [...] Sehwag, who hit three fours in one over from Andre Adams, followed when he was bowled for 45 by Jacob Oram, leaving India on 75-2 in the 10th over. [...] Blessing Mahwire had the wickets of Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid as India lost wickets regularly at the top of the order. [...] In the New Zealand innings, Nathan Astle and Scott Styris each hit half-centuries and Daniel Vettori added a vital 47 when the Kiwis were in some trouble at 149-7 in the 35th over. [...] With skipper Sourav Ganguly and Mohammad Kaif also failing India were in trouble but Yuvraj held his nerve and Dhoni proved the perfect partner to see India home. [...] Ajit Agarkar finished with 3-34 while debutant Rudra Pratap Singh, who opened the bowling, had figures of 2-44. [1]

Tutor’s tip: An “artist” (one skilled in a fine art) can also be an “artiste” (public performer), but an “artiste” is not necessarily an “artist.” [1]

The French word artiste (which in French, simply means “artist”) has been imported into the English language where it means a performer (frequently in Music Hall or Vaudeville). [...] The word art is derived from the Latin “ars”, which, although literally defined means, “skill method” or “technique”, holds a connotation of beauty. [2]

“Artiste” (the French for artist) is a variant used in English only in this context. [1]

The definition of an artist is wide-ranging and covers a broad spectrum of activities to do with creating art, practicing the arts and/or demonstrating an art. [...] No muse was identified with the visual arts of painting and sculpture. [...] Contrasting terms for highly-skilled workers in media in the applied arts or decorative arts include artisan, craftsman, and specialized terms such as potter, goldsmith or glassblower. [2]

Use of the term to describe writers, for example, is certainly valid, but less common, and mostly restricted to contexts like criticism. [1]

Many contemporary definitions of “artist” and “art” are highly contingent on culture, resisting aesthetic prescription, in much the same way that the features constituting beauty and the beautiful, cannot be standardized easily without corruption into kitsch. [...] The English word ‘artist’ has thus, a narrower range of meanings than the word ‘artiste’ in French. [...] The term is often used in the entertainment business, especially in a business context, for musicians and other performers (less often for actors). [...] In ancient Greece sculptors and painters were held in low regard, somewhere between freemen and slaves, their work regarded as mere manual labour. [...] Please help improve this article by adding reliable references. [...] The first division into major and minor arts dates back to Leon Battista Alberti ’s works (De re aedificatoria, De statua, De pictura), focusing the importance of intellectual skills of the artist rather than the manual skills (even if in other forms of art there was a project behind). [...] During the Middle Ages the word artist already existed in some countries such as Italy, but the meaning was something resembling craftsman, while the word artesan was still unknown. [2]
