Grooveshark is an internationally available online music search engine, music streaming service and music recommendation web software application, allowing users to search for, stream, and upload music free of charge that can be played immediately or added to a playlist. [1]

I recently found Grooveshark, a free, legal online music streaming website, that is largely defined by its large user community. [...] You will get options for “Artists,” “Albums,” “Songs,” “Users,” or “Playlists.” [2]

One of Grooveshark’s most notable features is its recommendation system called “Grooveshark Radio”, which finds similar songs to those in a user’s playlist and queues them for playback. [1]

Other community-wide features include the option to subscribe to playlists, message people, find fans of a certain song or artist, etc. [...] Once you are in, you have to download their small application – only 771KB – that allows you to actually play the songs, as well as download and upload music. [2]

A right-aligned black modal window also slides in to display more information for songs, playlists, and users. [1]

One regular section of the site (which I will be talking about here) and another feature called “Grooveshark Lite” that is new and is more of a web based streaming service. [...] It is, as well, becoming a hassle to even find good websites that offer music streaming for free, as they commonly have downsides that range from corrupt links to having a terrible user interface. [...] Grooveshark as well offers downloads for $.49-$.99, which is extremely neat considering the other features of Grooveshark that allow users to upload music to the site and get paid! [...] As you grow your playlists, you can share them with others while simultaneously growing the number of friends you have. [2]

Its design implements various sliding panels to categorize and display lists of information, similar in style to that of the Apple iPhone. [...] Grooveshark is a service of Escape Media Group Inc (EMG), a Gainesville, FL company. [...] A Twitter-like social feature allows users to “follow” each other to make it easier to share songs by clicking a special heart icon which adds it to the logged-in user’s list of favorite users. [...] Music can be shared on Grooveshark by directly linking songs to other users within Grooveshark or by posting links to other social networks like Facebook and MySpace through a “broadcast” feature, or by creating music widgets (small, embeddable music players) that can be posted on external websites. fedor lost

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

“I made a mistake,” said Fedor, who hadn’t lost since 2000. [1]

In the Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Werdum main event, two old era heavyweights who still have the mettle to compete in the new era of mixed martial arts will go toe-to-toe in a very intriguing stylistic match-up. [2]

The best fighter in the history of mixed martial arts lost in a shocking upset on Saturday night, as Fedor Emelianenko was submitted by Fabricio Werdum early in the first round of their Strikeforce fight in San Jose. [3]

Andrei Arlovski lost to Fedor Emelianenko, then looked terrible in his next fight. [4]

Fabricio Werdum in contrast is a living example of hard training. [5]

Fabricio Werdum, the latest challenger to Emelianenko’s thrown, has fallen into the trap. [6]

The man widely considered to be the greatest fighter of our time, Fedor Emelianenko, was handed the first legitimate defeat of his professional fighting career this evening in San Jose as decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Fabricio Werdum made mixed martial arts history in California, submitting the feared Russian heavyweight with vice-like armbar/triangle choke early into the very first round. [7]

M-1 Global says that Tapout withdrew a potential seven-figure, one-year sponsorship deal with Fedor Emelianenko earlier this week after the UFC told the clothing company to dump the fighter or lose access to UFC events. [8]

Other than the usual puppy dog look of ignorant bliss his face usually gives when pictured outside of an MMA ring, he also has an unusual entourage including clergy-men, Russian politicians, his wife and his handlers, all dancing around in his head and around his dressing room, while he’s simultaneously dodging questions from the media about UFC’s heavyweights and where he fits into the grand scheme of the heavyweight division. [5]

He said he knows he has “another fight” with Strikeforce, but Strikeforce announced before the fight that Saturday’s winner would get a shot at heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem. [...] Fabricio Werdum forced Emelianenko to tap out with an armbar and triangle choke in the first round of their Strikeforce heavyweight bout tonight at HP Pavilion in San Jose. [1]

Since everyone’s on the Fedor bandwaggon, like Burt Sugar says on ESPN Classic’s “(Boxing) Ringside” “I have to find the nearest casino so I can bet against him” because when the bookies have a fighter so overwhelmingly favored, it always seems to be the right time for that fighter to get upset. [5]

But inevitably, a training camp in preparation for a fight with Emelianenko tends to push a fighter to the brink of obsession. [...] It seems each time a fighter prepares to meet Fedor Emelianenko in the ring, something changes. [6]

M-1 Global executive Evgeni Kogan, a spokesperson for the Russia-based promotion (which co-promotes Saturday’s “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Werdum” event), said Emelianenko’s comments aren’t out of place at his career stage. [9]

edward scissorhands

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

Edward Scissorhands is a 1990 American romantic fantasy film directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp. [1]

Edward Scissorhands achieves the nearly impossible feat of capturing the delicate flavor of a fable or fairy tale in a live-action movie. [2]

View company contact information for Edward Scissorhands on IMDbPro. [3]

There are minor detours along the way, like “Edwardo the Barber,” which is fun and reminiscent of Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, but even in its lighter moments, Edward Scissorhands is classic. [4]

The film shows the story of an artificial man named Edward, an unfinished creation, who has scissors for hands. [1]

The film is proof of just how different the director’s visual style is: the fairy-tale suburbia he creates is a perfect example of his astonishing, uniquely Gothic look. [5]

It is not the easiest task to combine compassion and creepiness into one musical piece, but Danny Elfman has demonstrated, quite elegantly, just how to do it. [...] The film may indeed have played as pure farce if not for Elfman’s artistry. [4]

Mr. Burton invests awe-inspiring ingenuity into the process of reinventing something very small. [6]

Johnny Depp, making his first successful leap from TV to film, captures Edward’s childlike vulnerability even while his physical posture evokes horror icons like the vampire in Nosferatu and the sleepwalker in The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. [2]

This was Vincent Price ’s last feature film, and the melancholy mix of conventional horror movie, social satire, and quirky comedy seems appropriate, as does his part as the mad (if kindly) scientist who creates Edward. [...] Johnny Depp is perfect as the gentle, emotionally fragile title character who just wants to be accepted, and Dianne Wiest ’s saccharine, Avon-lady mom is delightfully loopy. [5]

Every director probably has one movie that he pours part of himself into. [2]

Watching this film cross between the perky super-saturated parody of American suburbia to the gray toned shadowy images of Gothic horror come together so well, it’s clear that the director had the entire movie plotted out in his mind far before the first scene was shot. [3]

The film has an unapologetically adolescent purity about it that transcends what would ordinarily be the shortcomings of its script. [6]

neil peart

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

Ask just about any rock drummer who their influences are and chances are Rush’s Neil Peart will be high on the list. [1]

When it comes to voting in Modern Drummer or Drummerworld - Neil Peart is always the No. 1. [2]

Neil has been photographed during the recent 2008 leg of the Snakes & Arrows tour using Hot Rods in the Bubba Gump warm-up room. [3]

Peart performing a drum solo at the Xcel Energy Center on May 22, 2008. [4]

With his technically demanding and precise rhythmic style, few rock drummers have scaled the heights that Peart has over the years on both record and on stage as part of the renowned Canadian prog rock trio. [1]

Gruber was also responsible for introducing him to the products of Drum Workshop, the company whose products Peart currently endorses. [...] He is the drummer and lyricist for the rock band Rush. [4]

Our Neil Peart Fan site is dedicated to the great drummer Neil Peart and the history of the drums he played. [5]

At eighteen years of age, after struggling to achieve success as a drummer in Canada, Peart traveled to London hoping to further his career as a professional musician. [...] He discusses the details of these switches in the DVD Anatomy of a Drum Solo. [4]

After a brief stint living in England (where he discovered the writings of Ayn Rand), Peart returned to Canada in the early ’70s and found out that the up-and-coming band Rush, who had just wrapped up touring behind their debut album, was looking for a new drummer. [1]

As time progressed, however, he began to emulate jazz and big band musicians Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich. [4]

The supporting tour culminated in a three night stand at Massey Hall in Toronto, a venue Peart had dreamed of playing in his days on the Southern Ontario bar circuit and where he was now introduced as “The Professor on the drum kit” by Lee. [4]

After he re-married in September 2000, Neil returned to Rush, and the band produced the critically-acclaimed Vapor Trails CD and subsequent tour, taking them to Mexico and South America for the first time. [2]

Funny People is a 2009 American comedy-drama film written, co-produced, and directed by Judd Apatow, and starring Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen as stand-up comedians. [1]

View company contact information for Funny People on IMDbPro. [2]

Funny People features the requisite humor, as well as considerable emotional depth, resulting in Judd Apatow’s most mature film to date. [3]

Funny People, his third directorial effort, won’t change anybody’s opinion on that matter. [...] Judd Apatow casts his former real-life roommate Adam Sandler as George Simmons, a comic superstar who learns in the movie’s opening scene that he suffers from a rare blood disorder that will likely kill him within a year. [4]

George and Ira meet at a comedy club, where George unexpectedly takes the stage to deliver a dark routine. [1]

Judd Apatow makes his directorial follow-up to the wildly successful Knocked Up with this comedy starring Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, and Leslie Mann. [5]

About his third film behind the camera, he says, “I’m trying to make a very serious movie that is twice as funny as my other movies. [3]

When seasoned comedian George Simmons learns of his terminal, inoperable health condition, his desire to form a genuine friendship cause him to take a relatively green performer under his wing as his opening act. [...] Continuity: During the final scene between George and Ira sitting at the table at Otto’s, the woman in the background (behind Ira) can be seen at the counter several times. [2]

Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann star in this seriously funny film from writer-director Judd Apatow, (The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up). [6]

This news gives him the impulse to go back out and work on his standup, something he hasn’t done in years thanks to the massive success of his movie career. [...]… he’s taking his time for all the right reasons, and the result is a raucously funny and poignant love letter to standup comics. [4]

Adam Sandler, Eric Bana, Jason Schwartzman, RZA and newcomer Aubrey Plaza join a cast that reunites Judd Apatow with Seth Rogen, Leslie Mann and Jonah Hill in their third comedy together. [3]

The film is so loaded with great little details, and so full of big laughs, that it’s easy to forgive the faults — and it does have some. [4]
