samhain

Sunday, October 31st, 2010

Samhain had an important place in Celtic mythology as a time when the normal order is suspended to allow free passage between the natural and supernatural worlds. [1]

Samhain is known as the witch’s new year, and is considered the time when the veil between our world and the spirit world is at its thinnest. [2]

Samhain marks one of the two great doorways of the Celtic year, for the Celts divided the year into two seasons: the light and the dark, at Beltane on May 1st and Samhain on November 1st. [3]

Learn about the history of Samhain — as well as some popular misconceptions — and different ways to celebrate. [4]

A harvest festival with ancient roots in Celtic polytheism, it was linked to festivals held around the same time in other Celtic cultures, and continued to be celebrated in late medieval times. [...] The Irish name Samhain is derived from Old Irish and means roughly “summer’s end”. [5]

Samhain is known by most folks as Halloween, but for Wiccans and Pagans it’s considered a Sabbat to honor the ancestors who came before us. [2]

In reality, much of what everybody “knows” about Buddhism isn’t true. [4]

Bonfires played a large part in the festivities. [5]

It has never been an English word, but Wiccans and other Neo-Pagans use it in preference to All Saints’ Day and Halloween. [1]

At the heart of the Celtic Otherworld grows an apple tree whose fruit has magical properties. [3]

This clever poem was written by author Cather Steinkamp, and pays homage to the classic “Night Before Christmas” in a Pagan theme. [4]

The Samhain celebrations have survived in several guises as a festival dedicated to the harvest and the dead. [5]

Try one — or all — of these rituals to celebrate Samhain and welcome the new year. [2]

In many cultures, gods of the underworld and death are celebrated during the harvest time. [4]

All versions of the show feature a talking dog named Scooby Doo; the original series included four teenagers or young adults: Fred “Freddie” Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, and Norville “Shaggy” Rogers. [1]

Scooby Doo has received mixed to negative reviews from critics. [2]

: i love scooby doo so YES! [3]

Scooby-Doo.com has relaunched its website with a totally new look and feel, featuring more games and kids pages, plus new Showcase and Scooby Snacks section, making it the ultimate online destination for Scooby-Doo fans. [4]

In the 1990s Scooby-Doo returned as a nostalgic pop icon for Generation X. A Scooby-Doo feature film was released in 2002, with a computer-generated Scooby cavorting with a live-action cast including Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne, Freddie Prinze Jr. as Fred and Matthew Lillard as Shaggy. [5]

After solving one of their typical madcap cases, the members of Mystery Inc. argue over Fred’s taking credit for Velma’s plan, and the group breaks up. [2]

Scoobert “Scooby” Doo is the eponymous character and the main protagonist in the Scooby-Doo animated television series created by the popular Hanna-Barbera franchise. [5]

Reggae artist Shaggy and rock group MXPX perform different versions of the theme song. [2]

These five characters (officially collectively known as “Mystery, Inc.”, but never referred to as such in the original series) drive around in the Mystery Machine van, solving mysteries by exposing seemingly otherworldly ghosts and monsters as flesh and blood crooks. [1]

Mystery, Inc. is a group of teenagers and a dog who travel in the Mystery Machine solving mysteries. [3]

A comically nervous Great Dane, Scooby spent each episode hunting ghosts with four human teenagers, including the always-hungry hippie boy Shaggy, the brainy Velma, the buff Fred and the beautiful Daphne. [5]

Fred becomes a celebrity, Daphne a martial arts expert, and Velma a NASA employee, while Shaggy and Scooby remain beach bums. [2]

The voice of Scooby’s human pal Shaggy was provided by “American Top 40″ radio personality Casey Kasem… Scrappy-Doo, a puppyish nephew of Scooby-Doo, appeared in some episodes of the cartoon; Scrappy is famously disliked by many devoted Scooby fans. [5]

Watch Scooby-Doo and play tons of free online games from the show on Cartoon Network. [3]

Scooby-Doo is the pet and best friend of Shaggy Rogers and in many iterations, including the original series, is regarded as a unique Great Dane dog who is able to speak in broken English, unlike most other dogs in his reality. [5]

freddy vs jason 2

Sunday, October 31st, 2010

A little over four years ago New Line Cinema’s Freddy vs Jason took in an astounding $114 million in the box office worldwide. [...] Now that MTV, Paramount and New Line Cinema are teaming together for the Friday the 13th remake (hitting theaters February 13, 2009), New Line Cinema has renewed excitement about the franchise and has begun developing Freddy vs Jason 2 to continue to run with the hype. [1]

One of the people that is sort of shepherding FREDDY VS JASON 2, Mr. Katz, has come up with this phenomenal script called SHOOT ‘EM UP. [2]

Freddy vs. Jason is a 2003 American slasher film directed by Ronny Yu. [3]

Freddy and Jason are back for a rematch — this time, another famous horror icon may be teaming up with Freddy. [4]

Robert Englund reprises his role as the famous dream stalker, Freddy Krueger, who joins forces with fellow horror maven, Jason Voorhees, to create a new reign of terror on Elm Street, but the collaboration soon turns into a nightmarish face-off between Freddy Vs. [5]

The film is a crossover between the A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th franchises, the eighth and eleventh entries in their respective series, and puts their respective villains, Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees, against each other. [3]

Freddy vs jason was a farse. It was a celebration of everything that ruined these characters in the previous sequels. It could have been great but they chose not to show the characters or their creators the respect they deserve.I hope they wipe the slate clean and make a real dark and scary horror movie with the friday remake and they should do the same with elm street. [1]

The series was published by Dynamite Entertainment and DC Comics, with imprint by Wildstorm, beginning in August 2009 and concluding in December 2009. [6]

Why can’t they just do a straight Nightmare sequel. [1]

Lack of support forced the finished film to sit for two years before finally being released on April 26, 2002; it would go on to become the lowest grossing film in the franchise at the domestic box office; it also held the distinction of having the largest budget of any of the previous films at that time. Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash: The Nightmare Warriors is a six-issue limited series comic book written by Jeff Katz and James Kuhoric, with art by Jason Craig. [6]

This was also Robert Englund ’s final appearance as Freddy Krueger, having portrayed him in all seven previous Nightmare films. [...] After overhearing several police officers accidentally discussing Freddy, Lori falls asleep and has a dream about Freddy, allowing him to gain some of his powers back. [3]
