seraphim falls

Monday, January 31st, 2011

Written by Abby Everett Jaques and David Von Ancken and directed by Von Ancken, “Seraphim Falls” is a rough, tough, old-fashioned western set on the dusty plains and snow-covered mountains of western Nevada. [1]

Its novelistic nature and low profile resulted in predictably modest ticket sales, but Seraphim Falls (2007) is a smart, cynical cowboy epic begging for rediscovery by the genre’s fans. [2]

Directed by David Von Ancken (The Shield, CSI) Seraphim Falls is a visceral study of revenge and a bloody account of the aftermath of war. [3]

The film’s opening “attack” sequence, deftly directed by Von Ancken and performed with virtuosity by Pierce Brosnan, establishes the story’s essence: it’s a chase film, and a pulse-pounding, edge-of-the-seat one that can be enjoyed on that action-oriented level alone. [2]

Somewhere deep within the snowy mountains of the American West a lone figure - Gideon (PIERCE BROSNAN) sits in front of a fire, lost in thought. [3]

Don’t worry, all of the reasons you love Rotten Tomatoes - the Tomatometer, our extraordinarily witty editorial content (if we do say so ourselves), your chance to write reviews and post them to Facebook - are still here. [4]

A taut psychological action film, an epic chase and primal battle set in the breathtaking landscape of the West. [5]

If you can sit still until the last twenty minutes, the movie then gets interesting. [6]

Deep in the snowy mountains of the American West, a lone man named Gideon (Pierce Brosnan) basks, lost in thought, in the warm glow of a small fire. [2]

Seraphim Falls is a 2007 American western film starring Liam Neeson and Pierce Brosnan. [7]

The civil war has ended but Colonel Morsman Carver (Liam Neeson) is on one final mission: to kill Gideon (Pierce Brosnan) no matter what it takes. [5]

The man who fired these bullets is Colonel Morsman Carver (Liam Neeson), and Carver’s goal is to hunt Gideon down like an animal and extract painful revenge for a past transgression that left Colonel Carver forever changed. [2]

Combining the raw brutality of FIRST BLOOD with the mesmerizing savage beauty of COLD MOUNTAIN, this is a film that will leave audiences gasping, and on the edge of their seats. [3]

On film review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Seraphim Falls has a 54 percent rating from 80 reviews, - indicating a ‘rotten’ status - while it has a Metacritic score of 62 percent based on 21 reviews - indicating ‘generally favorable reviews’. [7]

They pursue, led by the dour Carver, who will pay them each $1 a day once he's captured. [1]
